Held every year since 1996, the competition and exhibition Photographic Prague – a tribute to work of the great Czech photographer, Josef Sudek – composes a photographic view of the city by both its inhabitants and its visitors from the country and abroad. Both the competition and exhibition reflect development of the capital as well as remind us of its past days and events. The photographers systematically document the progress and changes of the city, and every year contribute to the wider and more colourful collection of compelling images, new facts and places. They become the visual historians of Prague and their view is every year presented to the public and confronted with the public opinion. Each and every year of the competition is unique. Pictures and authors unceasingly change as well as the city itself, which is explored from many, if not all of the various aspects, including age and profession. Not only does the photographic exhibition prove its central theme fruitful, but it also reveals the power of photographic media. As a spectacular kaleidoscope it presents viewers with an infinite variety of images and colours of our capital.

The competition and exhibition are organized by the Society of the Friends of Photography together with the Union of Czech Photographers, and with the support of the Nipos Artama. They are held with the financial contribution of the City of Prague, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and thanks for the awards in the competition belong to the following companies: Centrum FotoŠkoda, ExcelFoto, Fast, Foma, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, PermaJet.
